Landing on San Cristobal was really beautiful. They take great pains to preserve the ecology of the islands (which are almost all a national park), so they are very serious about not bringing food into the islands. So much so that there was a dog to sniff out food at the airport before we could get our checked bags.
We then took a literal 3 dollar taxi to our hotel—golden bay Galapagos. This is when the suffering of the prior few days really started to lift. The Galapagos is a paradise. Outside our hotel were sea lions, hoards of them. We walked to a nearby beach and waded into the water and they would just come right up to us. We walked further (looking out for giant spiders so that Sylvia’s hair doesn’t become a spider colony) and saw another secluded little beach. Then we walked around San Cristobal for a while, fickle about where we wanted to eat, before ending up back at our hotel which had unbelievable homemade pizzas.
