Galapagos Day 9: Black Turtle Cove and Flight to Quito

Our last day on the boat! We woke up early to read—Martin had to finish the book I got through first.

Then we went for one last panga ride in Black Turtle Cove, where we saw lots of baby sharks, golden rays, pelicans and sea turtles. Also a biting fly decided Sylvia was its favorite meal! That was fun too.

Still the cool kids!

Golden rays

Eagle ray!

Then back on board!

After a last lunch, we headed via Panga to a bus to the airport.

Farewell iguana

Our flight to Quito was short but bumpy—back in the Andes at 9k feet of elevation!

Inexplicable in Quito airport. I think it was “our internet is out of this world.”

Then we got to the Marriott in Quito which was one of the weirder hotels we have ever been in. Every bellboy wore a top hat. And Sylvia decided not to take any chances and get some oxygen in the room!

But that all went fine. We ordered room service and Martin was sad to learn that in Quito, a cheese empanada means ham and cheese. Tomorrow to Mashpi Lodge!
